By Road
Self-drive from Cape Town International Airport
Take the N2 turn off (left) towards Somerset West. Keep on the N2 (about 100km / 62 miles) over the mountain pass until you see a small town, Botrivier, on your left. The road will split. Lead off left onto the R43. Hermanus is 38km / 24 miles further on. Drive into Hermanus on the Main Road and through the city centre until you reach a circle (approximately 6km / 4 miles).
Take the second turn off, out of the circle, and continue (still on the Main Road) until the first road on your right (approximately 1km / .6 miles). This will be 7th Avenue. Continue (approximately 200 metres) towards Voëlklip Beach. Birkenhead House is situated on the corner of 7th Avenue and 11th Street.
